Casting Internship at the Metal Museum

This summer, the Metal Museum is looking for interns for the Foundry. Full time interns will be provided with free onsite housing and a $800 monthly stipend for the duration of their internship. Internships range in length, but typically take advantage of a student's semester time frame (8-12 weeks).

Workshop, Paper to Fire: Forged Botanicals

Using paper as a design and problem-solving tool, students will learn to translate the natural world into forged steel. We will start by gathering botanical objects that carry aesthetic intrigue. Then we will make paper patterns inspired by these gatherings and use various tools to cut sheet, thin plate, and angle iron and create leaves, petals, stems, etc. We will cover the transition from a flat plane to volumetric form through folding, creasing, and rolling metal while it is in a malleable state

Penland School of Craft Studio Assistantship

Studio assistants are students who work closely with studio coordinators and instructors to support studio operation during our workshops. Studio assistantship covers tuition, housing (a double room with a common bath), and meals. Studio assistants work 25–40 hours each week and are required to work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the day before their session.
Selected studio assistants are responsible for their travel to and from Penland, along with their share of the studio fee and any materials purchased.
SIBs instructors Anna Koplik and Susan Madacsi are teaching classes that you can apply to be an assistant for.
