Internships and Apprenticeships
The purpose of the apprenticeships are to assist the Metals Studio with commissioned projects and classes, to serve as an ambassador of the Metal Museum and the metalworking community, and to advance design, fabrication, and business skills.
The Metal Museum offers artist internships in blacksmith, foundry work and repair/restoration of fine metal objects and sculptures. These positions offer artists invaluable experiential learning that is meant to expand their professional and practical skills. We are specifically seeking a Fine Metals Intern to join our Repair and Restoration Department under the guidance of Kevin Burge during the Summer 2025 internship period. Smithy & Foundry interns will be considered for Fall 2025.

Becca Cerra LLC
Franconia, Minnesota
Becca Cerra specializes in one-of-a kind custom artworks that combine traditional craft with contemporary art-making approaches to create truly unique and memorable works of art. She creates conceptual art (sculpture and dance) and custom-made sculptures, paintings, and jewelry.
Becca Cerra graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Sculpture in ‘14. She then moved to Minnesota to pursue a career in the arts. Over the last decade she has received local and national funding to create sculpture and dance performances and created countless privately commissioned artworks.
Part time short term Studio Assistant
Becca will be working on a sculpture combining casting, blacksmithing, and welding while in residence at Franconia Sculpture Park this Aug-Sept. The studio assistant will help with this special project. The studio assistant will receive $25/hour for a total of no more than 20 hours or $500. Some experience with casting, blacksmithing and/or welding is required. Work sessions will take place at Franconia Sculpture Park and the studio assistant must have reliable transportation to and from the park. Work sessions will take place between Aug 23 and Sept 30. Exact work dates will be set based on studio assistant’s availability.

Blacksmith Teaching Opportunity
Colorado Rocky Mountain School is seeking a blacksmithing arts educator to cultivate creativity, effective art studio habits, and an ethos of excellence. This educator must teach and model craft, collaboration, and safety in the forge. Teaching responsibilities include our afternoon active blacksmithing work crew and a 10-day Interim intensive in February. In addition to teaching, this blacksmith will oversee our smithing program and maintain The Mountain Forge, an outstanding facility established by Francis Whitaker in 1988.

Department Head, Blacksmithing Department
Department Heads are the leaders of their department. They collaborate with the
Programs’ team on faculty recruitment and retention and scheduling, as well as on class
planning, new courses, and curriculum development. They are responsible for making sure that their department feels welcoming and inclusive of everyone interested in learning. We also look to them to develop students who are interested into skilled artists, and help them moving into teaching roles, if they are interested. Department heads are also the lead point person for sharing information about what is happening in their department. We rely on them to keep their department faculty informed of new educational procedures, safety and skills training opportunities, and new classes that will be scheduled.

Short term/3 month FT Metal Studio Assistant to an experienced metal craftsman in all aspects of the business, mostly making proprietary serving wares and cabinet hardware commissions. Tasks include: Prep/cutting/drilling/sanding/grinding/fine finishing/riveting/assembly/and more, as well as packing orders/inventory reviews/cleaning and maintaining shop/light computer work such as graphics/marketing/data entry.

Fabricator
We are looking for a motivated and experienced fabricator to lead our customs department. You will work independently and/or manage a small team in taking measurements, generating shop drawings, and fabricating projects from stock to finish. You will participate in project bidding and communicate with the owner regarding job timelines. You will take on the most challenging aspects of fabricated projects, and take a leadership role during installations at both residential and commercial job sites. You will need strong communication skills when speaking with customers, other contractors, and your supervisor. You will manage job-site and shop cleanliness, maintain machines, and be relied upon for the success of many of our custom projects. We are looking for a positively-minded problem solver who wants to create beautiful ornamental metalwork.

To facilitate the technical and physical aspects of artists’ residencies and other Arts/Industry programming needs, the Technician is the direct support of Arts/Industry artists-in-residence through facility, process, and materials instruction at Kohler Co. The Technician meets with the artists-in-residence on a daily basis and guides the technical development of their progress in the studio.
Arts/Industry Foundry Technicians will utilize all studio facilities, equipment, tools, materials; residency documents; and training or instructional documents.

Internship
Arrowmont welcomes BIPOC applicants (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) currently residing in, or from one of the qualifying central Appalachian counties to apply. This is a ten-week internship based on the applicant’s availability. The selected intern receives a $6,000 stipend for a ten-week internship, housing on Arrowmont’s campus, meals (meals on-campus during National Workshop weeks, or a meal stipend), travel reimbursement, and financial support for professional development opportunities (i.e. conferences, workshops) occurring during or near the internship appointment. The selected intern is expected to work 40 hours per week for the duration of their internship.

Studio Assistant Program
We are looking for excited, engaged emerging artists to participate in our summer assistantship program. Each year Peters Valley selects talented and motivated people, to participate in our summer program by assisting our instructors and studio heads. The Studio Assistantship is rigorous, requires long days in the studio and provides invaluable professional development opportunities. Studio assistants receive a stipend of $350 per week (for up to 18 weeks) to offset living expenses, materials, etc. in addition to lodging and meals on campus. We are accepting applications in 5 craft media studios; blacksmithing, ceramics, fibers, fine metals, and woodworking. Due to the rural nature of our campus, candidates should have their own transportation.
