Job description
Public sculpture project collaborator
Empact Art is seeking a blacksmith in the greater D.C. area to collaborate on an ambitious community-engaged public art project at Montpelier House Museum in Prince George's County, Maryland.
We are currently developing Ancestral Gatherings, a series of six monumental sculptural works ranging from ~ 2 to 10 feet tall. The sculptures will be created through a combination of forged metal, mosaic, ceramic, and community-generated artwork, bringing together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary community storytelling.
Qualifications needed:
-Availability from Fall 2026 through Spring 2027
-A minimum of five years of professional experience
-An artistic aesthetic that complements the project’s design vision
-Strong communication and collaboration skills
This is a paid collaborative opportunity. Compensation will be determined based on the scope of the proposed design, fabrication requirements, and anticipated labor involved in the project.

Groundworks Art Lab is hiring a Metal Studio Assistant Manager to support the daily operations of our Boulder, Colorado studio. This hands-on role combines metal fabrication, welding and equipment knowledge, studio operations, studio administration, instruction, safety oversight, and occasional manager-on-duty responsibilities.
Employment type: Part-time hourly up to 20 hours per week, nonexempt
Compensation: $25 per hour

Internships and Apprenticeships
The purpose of the apprenticeships are to assist the Metals Studio with commissioned projects and classes, to serve as an ambassador of the Metal Museum and the metalworking community, and to advance design, fabrication, and business skills.
The Metal Museum offers artist internships in blacksmith, foundry work and repair/restoration of fine metal objects and sculptures. These positions offer artists invaluable experiential learning that is meant to expand their professional and practical skills. We are specifically seeking a Fine Metals Intern to join our Repair and Restoration Department under the guidance of Kevin Burge during the Summer 2025 internship period. Smithy & Foundry interns will be considered for Fall 2025.
