I started smithing in '77, and started teaching smithing full-time in '07. At PHF the focus is on building your smithing vocabulary and helping you to find a smithly way of thinking about working iron. Our approach uses hand tools, tools that can be made with those hand tools, and as much as possible, techniques that can be used by the lone smith off the grid.

Howdy! I work as a museum blacksmith at Jerusalem Mill Village in Kingsville, MD, but my home is in Charm City! I forge historical replicas and trinkets for my museum. I can usually be found there every 4th and 5th Saturday of the month doing demos in historic garb. I am happy to help new blacksmiths establish themselves in the craft and the community!

I'm one of the new National Curriculm Instructors, and just moved to Maine from the blacksmithing education cradle of California (where I taught for 18 years). I'm a queer woman, a science & history nerd, and I love teaching blacksmithing. I'll try to get future teaching gigs linked on here (if/when I remember...). Give me a shout if you're attending something in New England.

I've been smithing for over 25 years and opened my shop in Jan 2009. During that time I also taught blacksmithing at ABTech community college, until covid hit. I just found out about this community and hope to become a part. Diversity in our trade, and educational opportunities for historically underrepresented people has long been a passion of mine.

My work embraces bold color, abstract form, and an exploration of texture to reconsider the traditional treatment of steel. Typically, forged works are utilitarian and masculine. Tuning into my own intuition, I have veered away from these forms and aesthetics. I employ the same traditional techniques taught to me by masters and still create objects that reveal the organic nature of the material. My work breaches the conventional concepts of blacksmithing and my intention is to contribute and influence the craft with a neo-traditional approach to the practice.
