BIPOC SMITHS RETREAT

© Michelle Smith Lewis

upcoming in person event! September 2024 at the steel yard in providence Rhode island

The BIPOC Smiths Retreat is hosted by The Society of Inclusive Blacksmiths’ BIPOC Cohort, a collective of independent artists who work in metal and identify as BIPOC. BIPOC stands for “Black, Indigenous, People Of Color”. Our hope is to further the work of the Society of Inclusive Blacksmiths in supporting and promoting historically underrepresented populations. We believe in building community, creating fellowship, and raising visibility for BIPOC makers. We aim to do this through educational programming, in-person events, and exhibitions which highlight the diversity and innovation of the BIPOC maker community.

This event will be a gathering of BIPOC artists in the metal crafts that will be held in September 2024 at the Steel Yard in Providence Rhode Island. The goal of this event is to foster community building and information exchange through demonstrations, workshops, shared projects, exhibitions, and intentional time for attendees to connect. The full retreat is open to any BIPOC person currently working with metal or interested in engaging with this community. Exhibitions and demonstrations will be open to the general public. Planning for this event is still in progress, If you are interested in attending please sign up for the mailing list via the button below. You can also donate to directly support the BIPOC Smiths Cohort through our current end of year fundraiser!
